New fruit

New to me, at least: kumquats. In both the grown-up and the kiddie version (fresh or glaceed) they're pretty amazing tasting.

Hmmmm, I've never eaten kumquats. Do they taste like little oranges? With the bitter skin on? They've always looked kind of poisonous to me, although of course I know they are not ...

I'm afraid I bought them ready-sugared, so I can't offer any advice.

They taste like oranges but - the fruit is bitter, and the skin is sweet!

we had a tree, and only ever ate the sweet white pith of the skin! it has lovely blossoms too.

We had a really healthy kumquat tree in the garden of our last house. We could never think of enough ways to use the mountains of fruit it produced. My neighbour managed to use most of them to make kumquat jam.

They are delicious, although I must admit, I have not had any since I was a child! They grew wild on my Grandma's farm. I must admit, I have not seen this kiddie version before! Where did you buy that?

I've just recently discovered that I love kumquats! I saw your blog in an Elle Decor mag and stopped by to visit! I love knitting and I live in S. Africa (thought not from here) so I wanted to check it out! Look forward to browsing some more!
