Knitting a carpet

It's fairly easy. First, find some rug wool at a secondhand shop for R2 a skein:


That's the hard part over! Next, gather all your thickest knitting needles, and swatch till you find a comfortable match. Then, pick a stitch pattern from the stitch dictionary you found at the same shop:


Tassel stitch, apparently.

I couldn't find it online to link to, so here goes:

Cast on a multiple of 6 stitches, plus 1.
1st row: *k4, p2*, k1
2nd row: p1, *k2, p4*
3rd row: as row 1
4th row: as row 2
5th row: *put right-hand needles between 4th and 5th sts and draw through a loop, k1, p2, k3*, k1
6th row: p1, *p3, k2, p2tog*
7th row: k1, *p2, k4*
8th row: *p4, k2*, p1
9th row: as row 7
10th row: as row 8
11th row: k3, *as row 5 from* ending last rep k1, p2, k1

The 12th row was missing from the instructions, but if you knit the stitches as they appear, as in row 6, it seems to work out.

Even the back looks nice!


No need to do anything fancy along the sides.


Or along the edges.


Keep going till you run out of wool, cast off, and tada!
