Change of Pace

Time for something different after all that drawing....

I've been making embroidered brooches for a while, in various forms, but was never happy with the pinback badges I was mounting them on. After a few experiments, I've come up with a better solution: stretched over a large plastic button, backed with a double layer of cotton, and a brooch pin sewn to the back. They're light, washable, and satisfyingly substantial at nearly 1cm thick at the centre.

Since my blog is nearly 5 years old (beginning of next month!) why not have a small giveaway? Nothing wrong with early celebrations. Leave a comment to win all four of the brooches pictured above. Make sure I'll be able to contact you; I'll draw a winner on Sunday the 12th.

The brooches below are for sale in my Etsy shop and my South African shop.

Is anyone keen for a tutorial for these? They're a little bit fiddly, but really quite simple.

  20. Genius! I always get frustrated at how flimsy the little pieces of embroidered felt feel when turned into brooches.
