Simple

I think I've been waiting my whole life for this pattern: Marla, from the always fabulous Needle & Hook. A perfect boat neck, knit in 4-ply at a gauge that makes sense ie. the gauge recommended on the ball band.

This is knit in the inexplicably discontinued Elle sock wool, so it's thin and dense and drapey and warm. I'm a bit glum about this yarn's disappearance; there's so little local 4-ply available as it is,and almost none of it in natural fibres or non-baby colours. Are there any other brands around that are affordable and in solid colours?

  1. Have you tried googling the gauge details and seeing what you get? You could also search for alternatives to the yarn you have used - the jumper looks brilliant, by the way.
Are you on Ravelry? There may be yarn-finding help available there, too.

  2. The top looks great. Can't help re yarn tho. I was in a yarn shop today, quite a selection, but few natural fibres, those in mixes. You'll have to learn to spin your own!

  3. That pattern looks like it has been made for you, it looks great!
On Ravelry you can search for yarns, but I have no idea if there are many South-African yarn around. So have a look. Otherwise, I really like Cascade yarns; affordable, many, many solid colors and they are good quality.
