Broekielace

Ah, broekielace! It seems to be slowly disappearing from my neighbourhood, as people put up higher fences, or scrap metal thieves cart it away. And some of it, to be honest, just falls to pieces after enduring more than 100 years of Cape Town winters.

I've started photographing the ones I find on my walks; they're just begging to become printed ribbons. I've put the first colour in my shop, with more to come soon.

They're named after the streets I found them on.

Your ribbons are gorgeous and the colour is one of my favourites! It's a shame that the iron lace is disappearing... it's so beautiful and I have been inspired by it in the past too. x

You always come up with the coolest ideas! I realize inspiration is everywhere, but I always feel so pained when I am trying to come up with ideas. You make it look so effortless! Your ribbons are beautiful and I love the idea that they kind of "document" the broekielace in your neighborhood!

Wonderful Jesse!!! 101 applications for these. You captured just enough of the ornateness of each one.

I love! Funnily enough, that cast iron stuff has been catching my eye lately too - especially the stuff that's thick with generations of paint. Very nice.

The ironwork looks very inspiring and seems such a shame for it to disappear - should be listed status! Your new ribbons look gorgeous - I really like the colours.

Lovely ribbon! I could see where the fences around you would be awfully inspiring. They've both got that curvy art nouveau thing that is so pretty you could just stare at it!
