Thank you

This morning, midway between two long and precariously timed journeys, my phone was stolen out of my hand. The person I was talking to had to listen to shouts, cursing, and then I imagine a crash followed by dead silence. My first thought was to rush home and tell them I was fine. My second thought (which I acted on) was to rush after the thief, who was of course long gone. My third thought was to yell at the station security staff - this I did too. Then the train I'd been waiting for arrived, and the only thought I had was to jump on it and finish off what I'd started. I figured I'd phone when I got to my destination.

So while I sat fuming on the train, and congratulating myself a little bit that I was still going to Get Things Done, other people were scrabbling round frantically trying to find out where I was and whether I was alright.

I finally did let people know that I was fine, but not after they'd wasted tons of time and energy. Now I'm sitting here feeling quite shocked at how inconsiderate I was.

I'm also very grateful that I know people who care enough to rush around after me.

More about the cake later, but for now all I'll say is that it's delicious and you deserve a mountain of it.

That's terrible. Stolen from your hand?

I don't think your inconsiderate. You were in shock. Thank goodness your safe and nothing else happened.

Oh my goodness! I can't imagine having the presence of mind to even THINK of telling anyone I was alright. I don't know what I would have done. So glad you're okay though!

How awful. I am glad you are alright though. It is such a frustrating thing because 1)your phone book is gone and for ages you will miss numbers in it 2)it throws your whole day out. Well done for keeping going. I hope your week gets better.

Oh my, what a horrible experience! I'm fuming just thinking about it. Working in NYC, I often have little daydream episodes about "what if", and I usually think of myself as some Wonder Woman who will conquer all... but in reality, it would go a lot like your experience... and for that I am truly sad that it happened to you. It's just so.... so.... Grrrrr! I'm happy to hear you are safe and it was only a minor (albeit huge inconvenience) item that was taken from you. Hope all that gets resolved quickly.

That is not an experience I'd wish on anyone. Glad to hear that you weren't harmed though.Hope today brings better things and that the mountain of cake went down well - it certainly looked worth drowning in.

OMG! How awful for you. And frightening too. I've never heard of anyone having a phone stolen from their hand as they were talking on it before. That's soooooo outrageous!!!
